On the Tuesday before Thanksgiving 2004, Cincinnati Bengal Quarterback Carson Palmer was on hand at CAIN - Churches Active in Northside - to help distribute food and personal care items and blankets to nearly 400 neighborhood families. This food distribution is a project of a two-year-old partnership between the international charity and relief organization, Feed The Children and Athletes First, one of the country’s premier sports representation firms.

Introductory remarks by MiMi Chamberlin, CAIN Executive Director
On behalf of CAIN – Churches Active In Northside, I would like to thank Feed the Children, Mr. and Mrs. Carson Palmer, Myron Johnson Lumber Co., GE, UMADAOP of Cincinnati, White Castle, and all those here today.
In early October we asked God to help us decide if we could do something around Thanksgiving and we decided that due to limited resources, uncertain funding and the demands of our Secret Angel Christmas program, we could not initiate anything this year and if someone came to us, we would work with them. Shortly after, we received a call from Feed the Children about this food distribution and knew that was our answer.
We are very grateful for this opportunity and see it as a blessing for both the givers and receivers. We know that we must keep praying to God who we know and trust is in charge, and also work to build the world that God wants us to enjoy. I believe God is using this moment to call out to each of us and ask – why in the richest country in the world do hundreds of people stand in line for a box of food? And why in this wonderful city, have our city leaders cut funding that helps those who are hurting and in need?
Each one of us is part of the answer. We ask that God will help us all to make changes in our lives – so that we may know God more closely and that we may do our part to help to make Cincinnati and our world more just and fair for all God’s people.
I now ask Rev. Deb Gamble of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church and President of the CAIN Board to bless us and this food.
